Matúš Labaj

Matúš's topic of study are “Energetic processes in the magnetospheres of compact objects”. He utilizes supercomputer-based numerical simulations (mostly particle-in-cell) to study physical phenomena occurring near neutron stars and black holes on a kinetic micro-scale.

Throughout his studies, Matúš worked on the problem of the hot-cold plasma boundary interaction and its application in the formation of thermal fronts in the solar corona. Most recently, he addressed the potential pulsar radio interpulse emission mechanism, the so-called electron/positron-cyclotron maser.

Matúš is a history and literature enthusiast, with his favorite authors being the “American lost generation” authors E. Hemingway and F. S. Fitzgerald. He is also an avid sports fan, with European football and Formula 1 sharing a joint first place, and a whisky collector.
